Pomegranate is a long used by humans tree, native from Iran and India. Its a small tree or large shrub. The leaves are deciduous if its grown in cold area. The plant basically is a sub-tropical plant. The flowers are produced throughout the summer with a brilliant red color. The fruit is large, roundish, red or purple in color. The seeds are coated in juicy, ruby-tinted sacs which is the edible part of the fruit. Pomegranates grow best in areas with cool winters and hot, dry summers. A few cultivars are adapted for growth in the tropics, but fruit production is poor unless the winter is unusually cool. For optimal fruit production the plant need regular fertilization, and pruning is needed for a strong structure. Not suceptible to pests and diseases.
